Nearpost Local 2xxFM football radio program gives the cause a plug

I have had a chat to Ian Shaw ,The Capital Football Technical Director at the start of the month about our Aid program and he told me that will mention it to Peter Funnell from the 2XXfm radio station to see if he can give us a plug. Pleasant surprise indeed Peter gave me a call and we had a little chat and has offered to Interview me at a later date and also the next day Peter gave our Aid Program a written mention in the Radio Programs Nearpost Local Blog page.
On Monday morning the 19th Peter called and he conducted a over the phone interview due to be aired the next day on the 2xxFm weekly local football slot. I did my best but to be honest with you I failed Badly "YOU KNOW". Undoubtedly got a bit overexcited as that was my very first and maybe very last radio interview......here is the link for the report and podcast from the Nearpost Local radio show on the 20th of April 2010

Early February Simon Reynolds came by the shop and did bring 6 pairs of shoes and promised me that he will attempt to help me collect more shoes by mentioning my program to his son James which is currently studying at Marist College and there was a very good chance that he could get some more boots donated. Well what a pleasant surprise on Saturday 21 March got a call from Simon letting me know James has posted a Letter in the schools website detailing our Program and the response was fantastic. He managed to collect 47 pairs of good old boots that the good hearted students from Marist have kindly donated to the cause. Thank you so much Simon, James and all the students at Marist College.

2009 January Trip to Cebu and Mindanao Philippines

I went to Philippines January 2009 for a 2 week visit and with that occasion I have personally delivered the football shoes collected in 2008 and given them to the lucky Juniors from Nasipit FC Mindanao. Also provided the club with a mix of about 25 new and old Balls and some sheen pads .

With that occasion I have met the The coach Mr Rene Sanoria whom i have visited the local schools meet the Principals and organised for mini goals to be made so the kids can play football in their spare time and sport practice lessons.

Some of the Schools that Rene, Marlon(the senior team administrator) and me visited during my visit in January 2009

After Nasipit I have gone to Cebu were I have met with a German National Mr Manfred Schuwerk that resides in Lapu Lapu Cebu which is managing a Football Club via help from germany and his own funds. A very dedicated hard working man that has achieved a lot in promoting football and helping disadvantaged kids master the game in the Lapu Lapu area of Cebu Philippines.
During our visit we have donated about 10 new balls with the promise of some football shoes to follow sometime later in 2009.
Manfred's club website is http://fcintercebu.com/
Here is a bit of trivia. The Island of Lapu Lapu is named after Lapu Lapu the leader warrior that has fought the Magelan's Spanish army and in that Battle Magelan lost his life.

2008 Old Football shoes collection campaign and other activities

In April 2008 I started the campaign via displaying of signs in my Kiosk and a mates shop "Jhay The Cobbler" in Dickson ACT and contacting via E-mail a large number of Junior clubs in ACT and also Capital football letting them know what I intended to do.

Some of the clubs did not reply and some let me know that they already have a Football Shoes collection pool and were not able to help.
I got good news from Tuggeranong JFC and they invited me to collect a box of old shoes that was available. approx 30 pairs fantastic
I have approached Mr Marko Vrkic the President of Canberra FC and he also related my message to his Juniors and we collected about 25 pairs

Thank you Canberra FC and Tuggeranong JFC
I have successfully been able to find cheap football shoes at the Jamison Trash and Treasure and up to September I was able to purchase in excess of 25 pairs. Also been able to buy few old balls and sheen pads as well
Between my kiosk and Jhay shop were able to collect in excess of 20 pairs and Jhays shop had the Lions share
Also I want to thank and Acknowledge Rick the owner of Praga Cafe at the Dickson Shops which has spotted the sign in Jhays Shop and donated in excess of 20 used footballs and few pairs of boots

January 2008 - 100 Lotto training balls delivered to various Public Schools, Individuals and teams in Cebu and Mindanao

In my 2008 trip I had the pleasure to meet some nice football people in Cebu. I have met Mr Otto, Flemming and Tony from Cebu XP and Mr Adonis Quitoy representing Santos FC and Melborne FC whom I had few discussions and given some insights on the tricky situation football was in Philippines...
That triggered me to intensify my effort and decided to try to do more for the needy youg football players whom I have seen some of them playing bare foot and embarked on collecting unwanted football shoes back here in Canberra. Also due to the excessive long grass they were playing I decided to get couple of Lawnmowers sent across....

.During my trip to Philippines in January 2008 this are the main beneficiaries of that trip
Nasipit FC Mindanao
FC Santos Cebu Men's team
Melborne FC Cebu Ladies team

Here we have Mr Flemming Hansen a Danish National that works for a charity organisation in Cebu deivering balls to various needy public Schools February 2008

We have packed 2 boxes and shiped them to Philippines back in August 2007
