The Rizal U13 Shine at the 2011 Kanga Cup

Since our proposed team did not make it to this years Kanga Cup we had the opportunity to spend some time with the young footballers Coach and Parents from the Philippino Capital City. I brieffly introduced myself during the KC opening Ceremony To Malotte the Teams Manager aranging for us to come watch and provide refreshments for the team at the games and also oragnised a farewell dinner on the 14th at the Deakin Football Club before the match between the Central Coast Mariners and the Canberra FC.

The cold weather was a bit much for the Team on Monday morning they kicked of at 9:30 also the Light UTD was the second best team in the comp so the team lost their first match. The pleasing part was that the team never gave up and kept fighting till the end.

The second match they played at 11 am on Tuesday vs the Local Team Woden Valley which they lost in a close contest with the team getting used to the weather and also the team was more aggressive and could see that the boys started to believe in themselves more with a n improved performance despite the loss.

Wednesday the team played in the afternoon at 2:30 pm and the temperature was more bearable for the boys and from the start they were on the offensive with several chances being created only to find themselves 1 nil down at half time. I said to myself such is Football "It can be brutally unfair" but we still love it. I had to go at half time somewhat depressed but that did not last long as an hour later got the good news via a message from one of the parents with the great news that the team overcame the half time deficit and finally won. Fantastic news as you could see the youngsters grow wings and never looked back by beating the SW Queensland team in their final group match. The team made it past the group stages and had to face in the semis the Mighty PoCheolDong PS football team from Korea which finished on top of their group beating and humiliating every team they played so far

The Koreans eventually did win the match but they had to dig deep as the Rifa Boys defended well and hit fast on the contra attack and being able to score against the Koreans which have only conceded only 1 goal to date. The Rifa boys have to be proud of their achievements and hold their heads high as the tournament is tough and also the cold weather had to be of some influence .

On the 14the we had taken the team out to dinner and after we have watched the match between the Central Coast Mariner and the Local team Canberra FC and after the match we presented the team manager Malotte with the 2 teams Autographed Jerseys and Each player received a ball and Engraved Pen as a memento of their visit. To top the night had the opportunity to introduce the Former Socceroo Captain and Borussia Dortmund UEFA Cup finalist Ned Zelic which kindly gave up some of his time and graced us with his company

Thank you Ned you are a true Champion.

As all good things must come to an end the next night we met at the ground and we have farewell the Team as they were flying out of early in the morning. We are excited to have been able to assist the team and hopefully they enjoyed and learned from this adventure with the hope that someday we may se them wear the Azkal jersey with pride. 2011 Kanga Cup Update

On my arrival back to Canberra I have contacted Travel Care Travel Agent to book the tickets for the team and the travel agent has asked me for the exact names as in the Passports as we were going to incur extra charges if the names were incorrect so I have emailed Hans requesting the names and the reply I got was on the 11th of May that he did not have the names and we have to wait till 17th of May when Manfred comes back from Germany. On the 18th of May I managed to get in touch with Manfred via Facebook to find out that the passport applications were not made. I have been told that the person in charge that was suppose to follow that matter whilst he was in Germany and unfortunately nothing happened. I have reminded Manfred that time was running out getting the plane tickets if we leave it too late and also the Australian visa applications take minimum 6 weeks as well so time was running out fast. He assured me that he was going to get a move on .

I have contacted the travel agent to ask the airline to keep the unnamed booked tickets for another week as we did not have the names yet. I have informed Mr Adam Castle from Capital Football of the situation and asked him to try to ask their contact in the emigration department to see if we can shorten the expected minimum 6 weeks to abut 4 weeks as we may not be able to make it in time.

On the 24th of May Manfred told me that it was looking promising and they were going to get the passports by the 20th of June and we got excited again for another day or two only to be told that wasn't the case as there were no Parent release forms and that was going to delay the applications.

The travel agent contacted us on the 27th of may to ask us what was going on as we needed to give the names or we loose the 20 seats the airline was holding for us

As a last ditch attempt on the 28th of June I have contacted a family friend in Cebu Mr. John Li to see if he can use his influence but due to the fact that the new electronic Passports take a minimum 4 weeks to make there was no chance for the passports to be completed in time for the Kanga Cup this year.

Words can't describe our disappointment as we sent the official Kanga Cup invite on the 30th of March and that was more than enough time to get the passports and we feel let down as we were promised by Manfred that he was going to organise the passports and we understand that he was sick and had to go to Germany for treatment and supposedly the person that did not follow that matter as he was instructed whilst Manfred was overseas. Still I believe is important you get the right people to to the job and monitoring is very important part of running an Organisation.

I would like to apologise to Adam Castle from Capital Football for all the inconvenience and thank him for all his support and understanding. Our apologies go to the people of Canberra for not being able to deliver on our promise this year. We'll make sure that won't happen and a team will come to play next year.

Finally this was a good lesson for us , we have learned a lot and next time we will be more vigilant less complacent and try to cover all our bases when it comes to reliance on other peoples assurances.

27-28 April 2011 FCIC Lapu Lapu Visit.

Between 20th to the 3rd of May I was in Philippines to celebrate my daughter Sarah-Nicole's' 18th birthday and also to visit the FCIC Lapu Lapu U14 Team that we are sponsoring to come to Australia to play in the Kanga Cup. On Wednesday me and my wife cought a flight from Nasipit to Lapu Lapu and on our landing been welcomed by the clubs Secretary/Web admin. Mr. Hans Potot and together caught a Taxi to Lo - ok Lapu Lapu National High school where the clubs juniors were training On our arrival at the school we met the teachers and watched the youngsters train under the guidance of Coach Jano. I had also joined the training kicking the ball around and working with the team practicing and improving their corner kick defence marking. At the end of the training I have handed over the promotional Kanga Cup Football goodies that Adam Castle the Capital Footballs Events Manager has kindly given to us to bring over. There were Balls caps Pens, Pins and stickers etc. which have been distributed and shared with the rest of the club juniors. Later that night we met with Hans and Coach Jano at the Lapu Lapu shrine where the Fiesta was in the full swing celebrating the historic battle that took place on the 27th April 1521 years to date between Chieftain Lapu Lapu his Mactan Island Man and the Magellan's Spanish aggressors which were defeated and where the great Magellan himself lost his life. The Lapu Lapu Shrine was packed with people taking part in the festivities that had live battle enactment with performing solo artists, bands singing all day long and finally later in the night culminating with an elaborate and exciting Fireworks dysplay. We had a late dinner were Jano, Hans and me had a lengthy chat and the topic was you guest it... "Football". About midnight we parted company and remained to meet the next day at the School were the teams were training with us saying good bye to the Boys and also to meet the local Barangay Captain and do some more hard Football lobbying. It was exciting to meet the youngsters which were as excited and very much looking forward to come play Football in this years Kanga Cup and we parted company by saying: See you in Australia in July!

23rd of April Bunnings Sausage Sizzle Stall Report

On the 23 of April Easter Saturday manned the allocated Bunnings Sausage Sizzle with perfect weather and ultimately another busy day the final outcome. Would like to thank and acknowledge the following volunteers for their help: Boyong Villar, Laura, Elizabeth Garrett, Rose Hughes, Regie and Lala Nazaro.

12th of March Bunnings Sausage Sizzle Stall Report

On the 9th of March got a call from Reg advising me of the that we have been allocated the the Bunnings Sausage Sizzle Stall Easter Saturday and also due to a late withdrawal the stall was available on the 12th of March as well. As we needed some cash to get back on track we grabbed the oportunity to do it. Despite being short of help we managed to make $2255 gross on the day with 1750 profit to boast with at the end of the day. Would like to thank and Acknowledge the following Volunteers: Rayyan Roslan, Boyong Villar, Adelaide Lopez, Regie and Lala Nazaro, Peter Balaj, Sarah and Sorin Clenci. Great Job despite the tough at times stressful and bussy affair.

5th of March Karaoke Competition and Raffle Draw results and Report

Well Well The Inaugural Pinoy Football Aid Karaoke competition And 2011 Monster Raffle has ended on Saturday and it was an event that I personally expected a lot more return for the expense and all the effort made. As we are sailing in uncharted waters and probably the lack of promotion recognition what ever.... I can speculate all day on it and may never know why and now it is just history. Definitely our next Karaoke competition structure has to be revised and adjusted no doubt or even scrap the event all together from our calendar of events in the future.
The total revenue from the contest door takings and the contestants entry fees was $1721 with total prices of approx $1400-$1500 (with the final sum TBA after the plane ticket will be purchased) so the net profit from all this effort will be about $300.00. Certainly a lot better than loosing money but considering the countless hours spent on the event this is to little.

The crowd was relatively modest as well and with only 136.5 ticket sales with all the free entrances (kids, Contestants and contestants guests and judges) was about 200 strong and far short of the expected 350-400 that I hopped for and expected to get. We had 2 tables reserved for the VIP guests and to my disappointment all but 2 did not RSVP us back and 2 tables at the front were completely empty a real sad moment for me and an eyesore to be honest with you.

Due to 2 of the contestants not showing and couple of late arrivals the show commenced late at about 7:40pm

Also we had major technical Difficulties setting up the sound and the lights and the light show was not fine tuned due to lack of time available therefore the stage lacked in light quality. with all the time spent on the sound problems encountered.

Because of all this technical delays unfortunately out of the 5 contestants that came early to do sound checks 4 unable to do them and I wold like to apologise to Ina Eriquez, Melanie Sto Thomas, Dane Rose Emalay and Marilyn Palma. Sorry to you all.

the contest went on according to plan with 2 delays due to computer freeze problem encountered and I apologise to everyone for that as well.

In relation to the competition entries I am disappointed with the response to be honest I expected a lot more but never the less that was that and all the finalists did very well and I was very satisfied with their effort and musical ability.

I would like to thank all the entrants for their support and Congratulate the Finalists and the winners for shining out on the night and they did a marvelous job as the crowd often went wild.

After the 2 rounds of eliminations and because it was getting late the judges decided that it was not necessary to go to that final round as there was no need as the 2 songs were more than ample to make the final placing decision.

I personally would have liked to see the final round but the judges made that decision and since they were volunteer professionals I had no say in it and could not override their decision in the matter.

May I add this; The judges were professionals with extensive experience in the industry and they did not know of any of the contestants. with the exception of Johny Huckle whom is a local performer and not on a personal base.
The judges were as transparent and honest as they can be and did not favour anyone!!!!

On a sour note for the night after the awards were made the mother of one of the contestants went to 1 of the judges and confronted him by saying words of this nature " My daughter sang from the Heart and should have won and the girl that won did not"
Also have had reports from other people with people from the same entourage were claiming that the contest was rigged and they will not support this contest in the future. also may I add that the same mother send a nasty text to "Boyong".

Sorry to say but this behaviour belongs to the gutters and not people that enter in a genuine fund rising event staged by a Aid organisation.

I can assure everyone that I Sorin Clenci and all the Pinoy football Aid and its members are totally transparent accountable and stand for EQUALITY, JUSTICE AND HONESTY and never stage promote dishonest unfair bias activities what so ever. I and all involved are saddened by all this selfish and unsportsmanlike behaviour of the mother and its companions.

Final conclusion and thanks:

This event did not deliver for our organisation the revenue we expected and we encountered many technical difficulties and we also learned a lot with this occasion with the consensus that we have to go back to the drawing board reassess and attempt to fix all this shortcomings. Nevertheless from the majority of the back feed we get the people were generally happy and that is pleasing and motivates us to attempt to better that in the future but we hope to get much better response from the community also.

2011 National Multicultural Festival Stall Report

This event was something we were eagerly looking forward to and also somewhat anxious for it to be a success and fully aware of its significance in order for us to reach our fund rising target. Much the same as our Christmas Pasqua Stall the weather was a major threat to ruin the event but the gods smiled on us again and Saturday (the most important day of the Festival) turned out to be great and we did well

We had a 3 day presence Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Since this was our first NMC event we encountered few teething problems but we managed to turn the event into a very very profitable event and have made a very good profit therefore bringing us a step closer to our fund raising target and we are proud to report that finally we are confident to reach our $15000+ total. Our Bank account is well in excess of $ 9000 and with the pending Raffle and Karaoke Competition Revenue we will definitely get very close and with a bit of luck maybe to exceed it. Now all this would have not been possible without the dedication and commitment of our committee members, members and a handful of volunteers that have chipped in as well.

Boxing Day 2010 Bunnings Sausage Sizzle Stall Report

First week of December we got a message from the Bunnings Belconnen Organisers via Reg Lozano our Secretary that there was a late withdrawal and Pinoy Football Aid has the opportunity to hold the Stall on the Boxing Day. We grabbed the opportunity since that was our first of hopefully more to come activity.

We were told that the store was very busy and we should expect to be very busy if the weather was good.

The activity went smoothly and with minor teething problems but that is quiet OK considering that this was our very first sausage sizzle stall activity. The weather was fair but unfortunately the store was not that busy on the day and the traffic was down on last years. Never the less we have raised almost 1 thousand dollars.

I would like to thank and mention the following volunteers that help make the activity a success: Lolit, Paul , Reg and Sarah.

5th of December Filipino Embassy food stall fund rising activity Report

The gods have been kind to us as the rain was a major threat as the forecast was rain and more rain with clear skies not expected untill Tuesday so we did take a risk and prepared a lot of food for the event and fully aware that if the day was wet we would have risked to make no profit and even a loss was a probability.

The weather was good and we sold out all the food and we made a profit of $2.300 on the day. Fantastic achievement as this was our first fund rising activity and we did not know what to expect as we (the committee members and the helpers) never worked together before. On this occasion we had displayed our upcoming karaoke competition banner that will be held on the 5th of March at the Deakin Soccer Club and top my dismay had limited success in signing up entrants...considering the fantastic prices we have on offer and knowing well how much the Filipinos like to sing Karaoke....Nevertheless the activity was a success and would like to thank all the helpers for doing a fantastic job and would not have been possible without their commitment. A huge thank you goes to Regie and Lala, Boyong, Lolit, Nanai, Paul Matthews Bartolome Sarah and Peter Balaj.

Shipment of Football Gear from Belwest Soccer Club and Brindabella FC goes to Nasipit, Mindanao on 4th of November 2010

Two balikbayan boxes containing 55 pairs of Football Shoes donated by Belwest Foxes and from the Sportsman's Warehouse collection Boxes 10 Footballs and 62 Belwest Mixed sizes and Colour Tops have been packed and shipped via LBC balikbayan boxes service in Sydney on the 4th of November.
This shipment was sent to Nasipit Mindanao and will end up being used by the young footballers there.
i will personally have the pleasure to deliver the gear.
Matter of fact I have plans to help setup a permanent Senior/Junior Football Competition, and that is a complex task as there is not much skeleton structure in place but fingers crossed. Pictures of the distributed gear i hope to have posted early next year.

September 2010 Pinoy Football Aid has become a Association

From its humble beginning Pinoy Footaball Aid has grown and became an Incorporated Association. Fantastic achievement and is far more than what I ever ever expected when I began this program.
I will give you a bit of a detail on how this came about:
For the last 2 years I was trying to get a junior Filipino team to come and play football in the Kanga Cup. I did try to organise that with Manfred Schuwerk in Lapu Lapu, Cebu but he could not get sponsorship funds to cover the plane tickets so the idea kind of faded away. On the 10th of July straight after The Central Coast Mariners vs Canberra FC match I was having a beer and a little chat with Reg my good Filipino friend at the Club and "cried on his shoulder" and told him how much I would like to be able to bring one of Manfred's InterCebu FC Junior team to the Kanga Cup in the near future and how expensive it was pay for the airfares tickets etc. and I was looking for Ideas how to rise funds. So we bounced Ideas around to see what opportunities we could come up with and Reg said " Why don't we hold a Karaoke Competition, The Filipinos love Karaoke and that most likely will be a success" I got a huge smile on my face and said Yesssss that sound great...and that is how we proceeded to form a committee and Incorporate the Association.

Since we Incorporated set out the following fund raising activities for the next 9 month with all the proceeds to go towards covering the costs for a Filipino team to play in the 2011 Kanga Cup

Belwest Foxes Soccer Club kind donation on the 14th of August 2010

On the 9th of August got a call from Toni Dodd long serving Life member of the club letting me know that the club is happy to let us have the excess gear they have in their clubhouse and arranged for me to pick it up later that week. Saturday morning the 14th i went to the Latham Football Fields and met Toni and Stuart Boschert the Clubs Junior leagues Delegate and the Masters Men's Coordinator. On my arrival i was warmly welcomed by Toni and pointed to a mountain of stuff at the back of the club house by saying " good thing that you bring the Ute as I was worried that it will be too much for a sedan'' We did take some pictures of the gear with "Stewy" dressed in the clubs mascot ball attire. I want to mention that Toni was excited and pleased to see all that gear ending up being reused by the Filipino kids and made me feel very good to see that as well.
Well at last I have accounted of the donation and this is the figure 26 pairs of various sizes Football boots, 2 bags containing 24 used footballs and several boxes and bags containing 327 various sized and colours numbered and unnumbered tops that will soon be warn by the needy juniors.
On behalf of the Filipino kids I would like to thank the kind members of the Belwest Foxes Soccer Club for their generosity and Toni and Stewy for their warm hospitable manner.

July 2010 Shipment arrives safely In Manila and Cebu

On the 26th of July I got an e-mail from Rick Olivares in Manila letting me know that the 2 boxes have arrived and all was good...2 days later Manfred Schuwerk from Cebu have emailed me also confirming that his 2 boxes arrived as well. that was perfect timing as 3 days later the competitions began and the gear was put to use immediately. Manfred has sent me couple of photos with his Juniors wearing the tops that Brindabella Football Club have donated and the boots collected from the Sportsman's Warehouse.












We also got news that the amongst the Manila shipment, Muntinlupa United FC youngsters were beneficiaries and have sent a picture with the team wearing the Brindabella JFC Tops . I would like to thank Rick Olivares for his help to facilitate the delivery.

4 Jumbo boxes sent on 22nd of June

On the 22nd of June we have shipped 4 Jumbo boxes.

2 boxes are full with about 140 Football boots mainly collected from the Sportsman's Warehouse donation boxes the other 2 are filled with over 20 sets of jerseys, numerous used and new balls and other miscellaneous gear.

2 Boxes will benefit the successful Club FC Intercebu from Lapu Lapu a club that we have helped in the past and it is run by the tireless German national Mr. Manfred Schuwerk and a good group of locals that have set it up from Zero and now have over 400 Juniors playing and training with the club. Ian Shaw pleasant surprise on the 23rd of May

Ian Shaw the Capital Football technical Director has been supporting our cause for more than a year now by giving the cause a plug via a newsletter and also introducing us to Peter Funnell the Nearpost local Football Radio Show which has been giving the cause a plug also.

Early this year he mentioned to me that he has some incomplete sets that he is willing to donate and he came good on Sunday the 23rd of May when he brought in a box full of goodies amongst the stuff was approx 70 plus various colours and sizes sets which will enable us to number and make 4 to 5 full sets that will soon be proudly used by few junior teams in Philippines.

Ken Yalg the President of Brindabella Blues Football Club Answers our Cooee

Late March I sent a handful of emails introducing Pinoy Football Aid Program to the local junior clubs in ACT in hope to rise awareness and see if any help can be given.

On Sunday afternoon 4th of April i recieved a call from Ken letting me know that he had a lot of gear lying around the clubs Calwell Store Room that he was happy to donate it to the program.

On the Sunday 25th of April after the O43 Fossils match between Canberra FC (team I play for) and Brindabella FC I caught up with Ken and he handed me the a multitude of bags full of jerseys, Shorts, and some football shoes. The Bags contained 620 plus tops. 181 Yellow unnumbered cotton blend Polo shirts, 119 Bright various colours numbered shirts, 282 SSL Polyester unnumbered in 3 different sizes 83 Umbro incomplete numbered sets, 44 various colours and sizes shorts, 11 pairs of socks, 5 hats 6 Pairs of Rugby boots 2 Pairs of junior football boots. WOW that was a very special ANZAC Day and one that I will always remember...

Now the hard yaka of sorting and numbering the Jerseys Begins........

I would like to thank Ken and all the members of the Brindabella Blues Football Club for their generosity and kindness. I don't think that size of this donation will be beaten. I certainly was amazed.

Nearpost Local 2xxFM football radio program gives the cause a plug

I have had a chat to Ian Shaw ,The Capital Football Technical Director at the start of the month about our Aid program and he told me that will mention it to Peter Funnell from the 2XXfm radio station to see if he can give us a plug. Pleasant surprise indeed Peter gave me a call and we had a little chat and has offered to Interview me at a later date and also the next day Peter gave our Aid Program a written mention in the Radio Programs Nearpost Local Blog page.
On Monday morning the 19th Peter called and he conducted a over the phone interview due to be aired the next day on the 2xxFm weekly local football slot. I did my best but to be honest with you I failed Badly "YOU KNOW". James Reynolds from Marist College ACT help collect 47 pairs

Early February Simon Reynolds came by the shop and did bring 6 pairs of shoes and promised me that he will attempt to help me collect more shoes by mentioning my program to his son James which is currently studying at Marist College and there was a very good chance that he could get some more boots donated. Well what a pleasant surprise on Saturday 21 March got a call from Simon letting me know James has posted a Letter in the schools website detailing our Program and the response was fantastic. He managed to collect 47 pairs of good old boots that the good hearted students from Marist have kindly donated to the cause. Thank you so much Simon, James and all the students at Marist College.
